Book Review of Wuthering Heights by Beverly Barton
"Wuthering Heights" by Paula Sage is the eighth novel of the series featuring Anna Pigeon. In this novel, we are introduced to another side of Anna Pigeon that makes her a much-loved character in the Twilight saga. It also introduces us to Joseph, an orphan who has been raised and brought up in Wuthering Heights. This novel provides a view of life in Wuthering Heights as it was and up until several years ago when the family ofonics came from the West Country. This novel is not as exciting as those of the other books in the Twilight saga, but it does have its high points.
I enjoyed reading this book despite the fact that it was not as exciting or dramatic as other Twilight novels. I enjoyed the characters and the story told in the short story. The main story involves a war between two sisters, one of them pregnant, and their boyfriend. While the war seems to be over in a matter of days, it takes the readers a few weeks to see how everything will turn out for the two sisters.
I enjoyed reading the first person, third person point of view. Sage does tell the reader her point of view, which is not unlike other Twilight novels where she uses first person. In this book though, she uses the third person perspective and creates a more honest, even heroic character. Sage wrote the book under a pen name, but she was careful to let the readers know that she was using the real name, Anna Pigeon, throughout. Some of the descriptions are a bit descriptive but not too much. The main conflict of the story takes place during a train ride while the Pigeons are supposed to be on a field researching animals.
The writing style of this book was light and enjoyable. I enjoyed the rhyme and meter of the writing. Sage uses a modern day setting for the story, but it still has that feel of the past - the countryside. There were a few times where I felt I was reading about someone living in the past. I guess it depends on how you feel about time travel, if you think the future always lies within time then you would not have a problem with this story.
Overall, this is a fun read. It does start off with a brief by-line introducing the main characters and the setting. Then in the next few chapters, we get to learn more about them as the story unfolds. There is quite a bit of romance involved, but you do not have to take my word for it - check out the reviews on this book. Once you start reading this book, you will not want to put it down, I loved reading this book!
The author was so kind and provided a great review on her website. Wuthering Heights is a very short book, only fifty or so pages long. Although it is a short read, the story is not a short story and is full of more interesting and engaging information about Anna Pigeon, her family, and about life itself in the twenty-first century.
