Review of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket is the only authentic novel written by American author Edgar Allan Poe. The tale tells of the youthful Arthur Gordon Pym, who stows away on a pirate ship called the Grampus after being thrown out of a window by a British soldier. After being captured and imprisoned for several years, Pym is offered freedom by a English witch who charms him. However, his imprisonment is not free as he now has to work on a ship as a sailor in the Caribbean. He then meets the beautiful Mary Read, who is the mother of his two children, Jack and Joanna. Together they form a gang and go on a daring quest in search for their rightful prize - the king of the pirates.
This famous novel is one of the first works that American author Francis Bacon has written. In fact, it is often referred to as the greatest novel ever written by an American. The story involves a young man called Arthur Gordon Pym who stows away on a sloop called the Grampus after being thrown out of a window by a British soldier. He then becomes a crewman on a whaling ship before being released into free Britain. Along the way he encounters several notable people such as Oliver Cromwell, Anne Bancroft, and the legendary Captain James Cook.
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket also includes many other minor characters including his wife and children. It is largely based on the life of the famed buccaneer Captain James Cook. The book is often cited as the birth of modern journalism as it is the only account of an event that is documented and described in writing. The novel was later made into a motion picture starring Steve McQueen, Kevin Costner, and Russell Willis.
If you are new to historical fiction, you will greatly benefit from reading The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket. It is highly regarded among American historians for being a very accurate portrayal of events that took place hundreds of years ago. In recent years, a number of books have been written about this era of American history, most of which are highly successful. In particular, Mark Twain's Adventures of Pecksniff was a novel based on the life of Pecksniff. On the other hand, if you enjoy novels about sailing ships, you might enjoy The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym.
The novel starts out with the main character, Pecksniff, narrating his experiences that take place aboard a sailing ship in the year 1820. Things go smoothly until someone throws a bottle of wine over the railing and splashes him. The bottle causes an argument between the captain and the first mate and the two men end up getting thrown overboard. A few days later, Pecksniff is found dead on a beach near the coast of Boston, his skull cracked open, and his body was eaten by a massive octopus.
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket quickly becomes an interesting read as it describes many interesting details that were not related to any historical accounts but were included to make the novel a success. It includes information about the life of the ship's first mate, the relationship of Pecksniff's companions, and the colorful characters featured in the book such as the character of Rackaman. All in all, this is a great book on a very enjoyable fictional island. I highly recommend this novel to those people who enjoy historical novels with a little bit of fantasy thrown in. For me, the novel had very good characters, a good plot, and held my interest. The Review of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket should be considered for people who enjoy reading historical fiction but also enjoy reading works that have fantasy elements to them.
